George Freeman letters

1808-1863

Letters to his brother, Shubael, commenting mostly on family matters and occasionally on his painting. Those written from 1825 to 1837 were sent from London and Manchester, England, where he was living at the time. Also included are a few letters to and from other members of the family and a letter to author Lydia Sigourney.

Portrait and miniature painter. Born in Connecticut, he left for England in 1813, meeting with great success during his 24 year residency there. Returning to the U.S., he worked in New York City and in Philadelphia before his death in Harford. From the description of George Freeman letters, 1808-1863. (Unknown).
